Hello all you crazy un-sexed ladies out there! I come bearing good tidings of a brand new internet-based possible solution to Vaginismus.

Everynow and then, I like to Google the big V to see what I come up with. Today, I found that HypnosisDownloads.com has released a new hypnosis MP3 that's meant to cure Vaginismus. They allow you to download this MP3 for $8.95 a copy.

Now, I'm at a little bit of an ethical standstill right now-- Obviously, it's somewhat wrong to go pirating things on the internet. But then, it's also wrong, truly wrong, to have to suffer from vaginismus. So I have to decide if my loyalty in this is to the thousands of women who have vaginismus, or to one of the only companies that has ever offered a reasonably-priced treatment.

So, here's the compromise-- I'm listening to this right now, a sort of preview, and I can tell you that, while I have not gotten through it for the first time yet, (it's about twenty minutes long), I can tell already that the production values are far superior to those offered by the dramatically overpriced hypnosis system from vaginismuscure.com. (I should note that I used those CDs for about a week, and I found myself achieving...interesting results. Essentially, I felt like this might finally be something that could help me, except that I found myself being very bothered by the lack of quality. I will get into this more later, because I find myself being distracted by the obviously more effective sounds of the treatment du jour.) Anyway, I would encourage anyone who has $8.95 to spare, and who is intrigued to head on over to HypnosisDownloads.com and try this-- it might work, it might not, but it's less then ten dollars, and that's a price tag that we co-sufferers aren't exactly accustomed to, am I right?

However, if you cannot spare $8.95, you could always shoot me an e-mail, and I could see if perhaps I could hook you up with a slightly less legal copy. The MP3 is about 10 megabytes, so it might be problematic, but if I can find a way to get it to you, I will.

Having not checked up on this website in waaaay too long, I managed to miss that A) I'm getting a hell of a lot of spam comments from people who "Like my blog!" and "have a similar blog about PENIS ENLARGEMENT/ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION/MULTIPLE ORGASMS that they would love me to check out and B) Hidden within these comments was an genuinely useful one from our hero-of-the-day reader, Lindsey, who found something similar to what I've just posted about months ago. The MP3 dowload she found is available here, from hypnoticworld.com, costs $12 dollars and features, interestingly enough, a female speaker (unlike above.) Alright...

So, I have gone ahead and purchased the CDs offered at VaginsimusCure.com, which are hypnotherapy CDs that were created by Dr. Tom Nicoli. I had heard, on the message boards, a lot of lukewarm reviews of the CDs-- many people saying that listening to them helped a little, but not enough to cure them, as the website title suggests.

I've only been working with these CDs for about a week now, but I can see why this is: The sound quality is bad, as it's been taken directly from tapes, there are some distracting slip-ups in his speech, and, here's one that I think is pretty key: he's a freaking man. Call me crazy, but I think, for something like this, a woman is a more logical choice: many women have a subconscious distrust of men central to their problem, and still others would benefit from a feeling that the person who is speaking directly to their vagina actually knows what it's like to have one.

Though, I don't claim to have that much personal knowledge of Tom, so I guess it's a possibility.

So, I've decided that, for the time being, my personal, if half-assed, mission is to try to convince a female hypnotist to put out a set a CD's-- yes, I, the all-powerful consumer, am on a quest to have the supply meet my demand. If I triumph, who knows what may happen? Perhaps a new set of CDs is just the answer that dozens of women are looking for.

To supplement the physical half of their treatment, that is. I still contend that a successful treatment will consist of any one of a number of psychological treaments combined with a regiment of physical therapy from a pelvic floor specialist. Not that I would know.

So far, I've come across one hypnotist that I'd like to take the job, one Miss Wendi Friesen, and I've e-mailed her with the suggestion.

I also came across a site where you can order personalized CDs. The hyponotist in question, Victoria Wizell, has already put out some somewhat similarly themed CDs, (as has the aforementioned Wendi)-- both have CDs for erectile dysfunction, premature ejactulation, achieving great orgasms, and, here's one that could be very helpful for the average Vaginsimus Sufferer-- a hypnosis CD that helps you to enjoy performing oral sex. (Wendi's and Victoria's.)

One would think that rather than pitching the idea to hypnotist after hypnotist, I could just order a personalized Vaginismus CD from Victoria, after which, she'd probably put it on her regular menu. And I would do this, except that I have a real hard time trusting such a responsibility to someone who claims hypnotism can help you grow taller.

The Continuing Saga of Low-Libido Blues...

In doing some continue research on the low-libido front (because Vaginismus shouldn't have to translate to a terrible sex life), I found this interesting article on the "search for the female viagra."

I've also started up with a pill, myself-- Steel Libido for Women, by Irwin Naturals. (You can't purchase it on their website, but you can request that it be sent to your neighborhood supplement shop, and quite a few freebies while you're there. Neat stuff. In the meantime, if you want to buy it, you can find it everywhere else. ) This came recommended from a cashier at GNC, who said a customer had specifically told her to recommend it, if anyone asked. I've been taking it for three days now, and while the first two days I felt no difference at all, today has seen a notable spike in my sex drive. This could be from either the natural blend of ingredients, including Maca and Horny Goat Weed Extract, or it could be the fact that for three straight days now I've been little pink Now-and-Later-esque pills, clicking my heels and saying "Think Sexy Thoughts, Think Sexy Thoughts..." Is it a placebo effect of the real thing? Who knows? Having only been feeling the effects for a few hours now, it's too soon to guess, but I'll keep you posted.

Also, if this seems to be helping, I thinking of a adding some kind of Arginine-based pill to the mix, to see how the combination effects me. More on that when it happens.

Okay, so how many of you have seen that totally annoying commercial for Avlimil, wherein the woman uses the word "PASSION" about a hundred times?

"I used to think I didn't have time for sex, but I took Avlimil, and now I have PASSION! You hear me, PASSION! I mean it, PASSION! I'm not f'ing with you here, it's PASSION!"

I'm paraphrasing. But not much.

It's been pretty widely discussed that one of the worst effects of Vaginsimus can be suffering from a low sex drive. This can be because of many factors, including a fear of intimacy or just plain giving up on the whole idea of sex-- but it's dangerous to linger in this complacency. After all, if you aren't motivated to be sexual, how can you be motivated to overcome Vaginismus? With all the stress that the various treatments have to offer, it's easy to just decide that sex isn't important enough to you to keep going. If you can have a healthy sex life aside from your Vaginsimus, you're more likely to eventually beat it. So let's talk about some products that are said to treat low sex drive.

Pills and products for women with low sex drives are the new "thing" in pharmaceuticals, or, rather, in non-prescription vitamin supplements packaged to appear as a phamaceutical-- that's right, in my investigation, the first thing I found out about Avlimil is that it is NOT a prescription, it's merely a "proprietary blend", and, furthermore, the commercial was designed specifically to make women think that it is something you must get from the doctor-- this was a very intentional campaign designed to give credibility to the product, and to allow them to charge more money than most women would pay for a vitamin. They even package it to look like birth control, and refer to it in measurements of "cycles".

Want more dirt? Okay! You got it! The company offers a free thirty day "cycle" of the product urging you to see results for yourself, rather than taking their word for it, even though in the FAQ section it clearly states that you should give it between 60-90 days to take effect (to be fair, it says many women see a difference in 10, but there are no specifics as to what constitutes "many"), and there are numerous sites on the internet claiming that if you do send away for the free trial, they sign you up for an autoship program that you can't cancel out of before your first paid shipment, no matter how hard you try. As for their refund policy--

"If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase you may call Customer Care at 1-866-834-1715 to make arrangements to send your unopened cycles back to us for full credit. Credit will ONLY be issued for unopened cycles."

So, if you aren't satisfied with a product you haven't tried, you can definitely get your money back!

Now comes the big question-- does it work? Well, who the hell knows? I found one graph-review by e-consumer.com that rated it third out of four (#1 EstaVil, #2 Avenavin. #3 Avlimil, #4 Femtrex), and one written study from healthbeat.us that weighed it negatively (saying that Avlimil gave the user more energy in general, but did nothing for her sex drive) against another product, but I would trust either of these, especially the second, as it seems they easily could have been studies paid for by the competitors-- however, the healthbeat.us study does have quite a few seemingly unbiased user comments-- a lot of variation, but definitely worth a look.

The number one competitor for Avlimil? The slightly-more-promising, but just-as-scandalous Sentia.

Sentia promises increased libido, improved sensitivity, higher energy levels and better orgasms, and the website is a bit more compelling, offering more information and, while it's irrelevant, a much better design. The pricing is roughly double that of Avlimil, though it all depends on how much you order. However, their return policy is way better, and there's a clear checkbox so that you can opt in or out of their autoship program, so perhaps not being sent something you don't want on a monthly basis will pay for itself. And, you're more likely to find a positive review for Sentia online than you are of Avlimil! So why is that? Surely, because it's the better product?

Or maybe not.

There is strong evidence to suggest that Sentia is stuffing the ballot box when it comes to positive reviews online...Type the words "a longer pause than a few days" into google, and there you get three seperate reviews that use this exact same awkward wording:

"I don't remember a longer pause than a few days where I haven't made love to my husband/boyfriend/girlfriend."

I also found aHealthbeat.us review we mentioned earlier, where Sentia came out the clear winner, on the sidebar they mention the price of Avlimil, but not the price of Sentia-- again, you can check out the user reviews (what a shock, they're all good.)

What else? I'll tell you what else! On the of website Avenavin, another product basing most of it's advertising on the internet, there is a what they call a "Revealing Sentia Review", which goes on and on with the shortcomings and possible side effects of Sentia.

Son-of-a-motherless-goat, the information on these products keeps coming and coming-- unlike the people who need them.

I have officially been writing this for over three hours now, having to wade through all of the information that I've been gathering for the past month, and do it on dial-up, nonetheless. So here's the deal, I'm gonna go ahead and post this, as-is, in hopes of getting to information on the other billions of products out there on a later date. Have questions or comments about a product, or anything else? Leave 'em in the comments box-- and check it, to see if I've put any mini-updates in their, as well. I have a feeling there's more in the way of fake Sentia reviews, and I'll post 'em as I find 'em.

Before I sign off, though, here's my suggestion: before any of you start running out to spend hundreds of dollars on these, go to your local pharmacy and pick up some Horny Goat Weed-- Also called "Super Goat Weed" in your more family-friendly stores. It'll cost you anywhere between 3-10 bucks, and it's been used for these exact same problems for hundreds of years. I took it for a little while (I'm really, really bad about doing things on a daily or regular basis...as evidenced by my pattern of updates here), and didn't notice a whole lot of change in my libido, but I did notice slightly better orgasms, and who knows what else would have happened if I'd stayed with it longer? Now, it may or may not have been a placebo effect, but for the bargain price of 3-10 bucks, and a whole lot less headaches than these mail-order supplements, I think it's worth a try.

Not convinced? Do some of your own darn research on it, or tune in for our next installment. If all else fails, catch a plane to Jamaica and sleep with Taye Diggs. If that don't get your groove back, Stella, nothing will.

You come up with some interesting stuff when you enter the word "Vaginismus" into Froogle, Google's consumer companion. I'm gonna list some of the more interesting and promising links, only most of which are actually homeopathic. Forgive me my misleading rhetoric.

I'd like to state very clearly and for the record that The Vagina Monoblogs neither recommend nor endorse these products. I've never used or thoroughly researched any of what I'm about to link to, I'm merely trying to make people aware of products so that they then can research on their own. I would recommend, in the instances most of the below, that a Doctor be consulted before use. How do you like that, you legal liability seeking scum!

Uh, not you. Lawyers and such.

Liddell PMS Spray-- Here's a sexy little number that claims to help with all sorts of vulvar, vaginal and menstrual symptoms. The website refers to it as homeopathic, and there's a listing of which active ingredients in the formula do what. This says that something called Magnesia Phosphorica 9x (Magnesium Phosphate, Dibasic) "Provides natural pain relief; relieves intermittent lower abdominal cramps; helps prevent menstrual cycle irregularities (early menses); eases ovarian neuralgia; and alleviates painful spasms of the vagina (vaginismus)" and that a little something called Chamomilla 12x (Chamomile) is a "Natural anti-spasmodic remedy", as well as many other benefits that aren't directly related to Vaginismus. Check it out. At four dollars a bottle, this (with the proper research and investigation) could be your ticket to less painful progress in a very affordable way.

A site Called Rx Homeo claims that Cactus, Plumbum Met, and especially Belladonna all help with the problem, but it doesn't give any information on why or how. "Remedies" are 14.50 each, for a month's supply. Another site talks about Oligotherapy Remedies and provides some more affordable supplements at 7.95 each that can allegedly help with a full range of problems. This one sites that Magnesium, Lithium, Allumiunum and Copper are the Vaginismus-Friedly ingredients. Uh...Lithium???

EvaMax II is Herbolove.com's answer to the painful penetration pickle. Like so many products on the market, their first claim is to help with menstral problems, then mentions intercourse pain as a secondary issue. It's a two part system, made up of DeToxiA and MoodMax, at least the first of which isn't vegan friendly. (Animal testicle extract??) I would definitely talk to a doctor or other expert before starting this regiment, as the maker of these products is claiming the Vaginismus is caused by inelasticty of the vaginal tissue...which, correct me if I'm wrong, either seems to be only part of the truth or not the truth at all.

I'll be sure to do some further investigations on this one. I'm a little wary of it. I'll also try and do us all a favor and visit my local GNC sometime soon to see if they can give me some insight into why these kinds of things (specifically magnesium) are helpful.

I've been sitting on this post in draft form for about a week and half now trying to find the time to finish up the second half. I think perhaps it would be better to make this a two-parter. Stay Tuned!

I've just started training at a new job, I'm suffering from some severe sleep disorders (can't sleep all night and so do it in the daytime) , and it's end-of-the-semester at college right now, so time is not abounding for me to update right now, but I should have some time to pump out a little something this weekend.

So, you wanna try Hypnotherapy?

Never one to dismiss heartfelt constructive criticism, *cough*bull*cough*, when a concerned reader expressed that she felt I wrote off Hypnotherapy too quickly, I went straight ahead and had a bowl of ice cream. Yum.

After that, I decided that maybe it was time I helped anyone who was in the market locate a hypnotherapist of their very own. And so I humbly do so.

The "it" place to find a Hypnotherapist online seems to be the "find a referral page" of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis website. There you can search by state, which I recommend, or by specialty, which I don't recommend for the following reasons: Firstly, as you may have guessed, "Vaginismus" is not a specialty listed on their menu. The closest I could find were "Marriage Therapy", "Sexual abuse/trauma", or "Aerospace Medicine", because, let's face it, when we finally do have sex it'll be outta this world.

The second reason I don't recommend searching by speciality is because I when I searched under "Marriage Therapy" and "Sexual abuse/trauma", I got no results for Maine, which was surprising because when I searched just for Maine, I got about twenty, which was a lot more than I was expecting. Long story short, you're probably better off finding the five or so on the list for your state that are closest to you, calling the offices and finding out if they've ever treated Vaginismus or anything similar.

The National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists also has a "Find a Therapist" page. I'm seeing fewer listings but more detail, and they also have a few in England, one in Canada and one in Zimbabwe. I'm not making that up.

The American Psychotherapy and Medical Hypnosis Association has a page with listings from some states and few straggling foreign (to me, not nessecarily to you, as this is the internet) countries, and a "request a referral" form if you can't find anything on the list. I think this listing may include people who are hypnotists as opposed to hypnotherapists, but it's a little murky to me...I never realized there were so many associations these people could belong to. Also, this site has a place to order a "Deep Relaxation" Audio Cassette by Dr. Roger E Griswold, as well as a myriad of other cassettes. Not strictly related to Vaginismus, but it could be helpful, so here's the link.

This site has quite the in-depth listing of Hypnotherapists all over England, and it links to this one, the National Counsel of Hypnotherapy region search, which includes Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and a tidy little group called "overseas" which, from The Brittish Isles, is everything else.

And let's not us forget the usefulness of our local Yellow Pages. Because they let your fingers to the walking...instead of my fingers. You know how long it took to compile all those links? Jeezum.

Before signing off, I'd like to point out that my ever-error-conscious reader let me know that if I were to search the archives of the Vaginismus Egroups, I would find a few accounts of people who have been cured thanks to hypnotherapy. I am, however, having the darndest time searching those things. So I will continue looking for the evidence that has been promised to me, and, until then, if you get antsy you can always join the groups yourself and take a look-see. Anyone out there who's got some feedback on hypnotherapy, hit the comments box.

Hell, being able to spell them both should qualify you for an Honorary PhD, so what kind of genius would you have to be to know what they both mean?

Well, get ready to join Mensa, people, because I found a site that has awesome, in-depth definitions of both, and talks about how they can go hand-in-hand (while still maintaining their independence. What a couple!)

I'd like to give a quick mention to the people at http://www.sexualtherapy.com who are being especially helpful in furnishing information on their vaginimus-related tape. I will have a few review soon.

In other news, the reason this post is so small, and entitled "Poll Dancin'", is because it was supposed to be a post devoted to the poll it would have had on it. Unfortunately, blogger does not appreaciate my javascript friends at this time. After four days of frustation and three different polling services I...well, I'm not gonna give up. Because that would set a bad example to my many many admirers, suffering from Vaginismus, who should not, will not, cannot give up in their own personal frustrtating quest! I WILL GET A POLL ON THIS DAMN SITE! AND WE WILL ALL BE CURED!

Well, I mean, not because of the poll. It's just a symbol I'm using to represent perseverance. What kind of blogger would I be if I promised you a poll could make you all better? Jeesum.

Find a Sex Therapist

This section of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists website can help you locate a Sex Therapist or Counselor in your state. It should be explained that this will take you to a map where the pictures of the states are links, but if your state picture doesn't work as a link, you can find a drop-down menu below that you can pick your state from. Most of the states seem to have at least one or two professionals listed.

This site also has a few. While fewer states are covered, I noticed there was someone listed under Maine on this site that isn't listed under the first one, a nurse in Bangor. This trend continues in Arizona, an arbitrary pick to test the theory (I'm a Mainer, myself.) Also, they have a place to order some vaginismus and dyspaurenia-related merchandise, for instance a tape and the famous Ditza Katz book, which is difficult to find anywhere else. Not much information provided on the tape, however, so I will e-mail them in an attempt to find out what it's all about. Also on the site, a sex test that supposedly helps with diagnoses. The cost to take it is about $10.

Sexology.org is the site of a company called Sex Therapy Online. From what I can ascertain, this a group of therapists and "sexologists" (whatever that is) that endeavor to help people with their sexual issues in an online format, for instance via e-mail. It's not a free service, but they claim that it's less expensive than seeking professional help (though they admit that it is not a substitute.) I warn you to use at your own risk, but it seems at the very least they might be able to provide a referral to a live therapist in your area, or maybe get you started if you've got some reservations about seeing someone in real life.

More online sex therapy (which, I might add, seems surprisingly prevalent):

I found a lot of these links on this site, and there are a lot more there for therapists in specific areas, for instance the promising-sounding Dr. Dean Dauw in Chicago, Illinois. Makes me wish I lived there.

Then, it has to be said, there is always the Women's Therapy Center in Plainview, New York. Former patients swear by this place, and many a heated battle have been fought on the Vaginismus egroups about them. If I was supposed to be fair and balanced in reporting, I would say that it's told to be a highly effective treatment center with almost a 100% rate of success, which is counterbalanced in virtue by it's high price. However, this is technically my blog, not the New York Times, so I'm gonna 86th the "fair and balanced"-- The word on the street is that they don't have any special equipment, or techniques, it's just that they're experts. So the cost of overhead can't be so high that they have to charge the 8,000 dollars that they do for a two-week program, which doesn't include food or boarding. In my opinion, they take advantage of a problem that they claim to be very sensitive in, so until they start offering lower prices or some sort of scholarship program, they very strongly do not have the endorsement of the one blog on the internet devoted to vaginismus! TAKE THAT, WTC!! *Ahem*

However, it seems that if you live in the Long Island area, this might be a much more affordable option for you, and a very effective one at that. And if you've gotten to the point where money is no object, of course The Vagina Monoblogs will not begrudge you a healthy and happy sex life, wherever you seek treatment.

And if all else fails, you can always Ask Dr. Venus!

Okay, so...lots of things to get around talking about and linking to.

Pretty soon, I am going to post a poll about which of my visitors has vag., which think they might, which used to, and which are outsiders and thusly envious of our clearly superior status. But, for now, I don't have any visitors, as I feel I should have some information, links, or something of value before I get so bold as to actually send people here. So why don't we get started with that.

Let's Talk about Sex, baby.

Treatment Options-- Vaginismus is a serious problem, but by no means an insurmountable one. In fact, somewhere in the 90th percentile of people treated are eventually cured, according to various sources. Realizing this, it's difficult to understand how so many of us find ourselves suffering for years and years, with various treatments going unsuccessful. To my mind, the trick is to identify what plan of attack fits you best. Common means of treatment are as follows:

*Consulting a Sex Therapist to work out emotional issues. It's also likely that they will use or recommend any number of other treatments, including.
*Dilators. For those of you who have never heard of dilators, these hateful little things tend to be the backbone of any Vaginismus treatment regiment. A series of...well, dildos, basically, that start small and then gradually increase in size, the idea behind them is that they "train" the vagina to accept objects without going into spasm. The problem with them is that, so often, without other forms of treatment, they are useless-- one often needs a professional to demonstrate how to use them, or a coach to assist in the emotional side of using them, or, like in my case, one may need a great deal of other treatment before they could get to the point where they could use them at all.
*Hypnotherapy is often used, though, to be honest, I've never heard of anyone getting cured via this method. And I don't have a lot of information available yet. Will let you know when I come across some. And please let me and others know via comments if you've got any, as well.
*Physical Therapy. This one actually came as a shock to me, but it was the one I was the most comfortable with the idea of, and it's the one I'm using today. There are physical therapists out there who specialize in pelvic floor dysfunction, and they can be one of the biggest helps. I found my physical therapist, the awesome Karen L., through the 'find a provider' section of the International Pelvic Pain Soceity Website. Yes, you heard that right. Pelvic Pain has it's own international soceity. How'd you like to crash one of their swinging parties?
*Etc. Etc. is a great means of treatment. In this category, you will find things like audio tapes such as the ones you can find at vaginismuscure.com (see mini-review below), herbal medications and pills to help relax, and good ol' masturbation therapy. I don't know too much about that one, either, but I'm willing to learn. Also, when all you think you need to get started is a healthy dose of support and vodka, check out online support groups, or your local liquor store. Yahoo's Egroups host more than a 10 (by which I mean "11") groups dedicated to, or at least vaguely related to, the subject. I personally belong to Vaginismus, 1Vaginismus and, my personal favorite, Primary Vaginismus.

Welcome to The Vagina Monoblogs: Your one-stop source for Vaginismus-related Fun!

Okay, for those of you who don't know, there is no such thing as "Vaginismus-related fun". Traditionally, anyway. I guess maybe that's what this blog is supposed to be about. Everything Vaginismus. Information, resources, support, and, maybe, just maybe I can add something to smile about.

So, a brief introduction. My name, or as close as many of you will ever come, is SuedeCaramel. This is one of way to many blogs that I run, the most flashy and in-depth of which is located at SuedeCaramel.Blogspot.com. Everything you ever wanted to know about a whiny twenty-something suffering from Vaginismus can be found there...but really, what would you ever want to know? Just the basics, is what I'm guessing, so here they are: I'm twenty, I've been married for about a year and a half, and, thanks to my condition, it's been a celebate marriage thus far. I like to write, and many consider me good at it, and sometime last night I figured that between having talent at writing and having Vaginismus, why, gosh-oh-golly, I should be the first one to ever start a blog dedicated to it. Voila! C'est magnifique, n'est-ce pas?

Another basic: I don't actually speak french.

There's a hefty sum of you out there right now-- yes, that's right, right at this very second!-- that have no idea what Vaginismus is. And knowledge is power, so let's break down that wall right now.

For the time being, I'm afraid, it's Christmas Eve (if you hadn't noticed), and while I wanted to get the ball rolling on my great big Christmas Present to the vaginismus community, I'm going to continue celebrating in non-sexual-dysfunction-related ways.
